Chitewe Law Practice (CLP) is a law firm whose vision is to provide its individual and corporate clientele with legal advice and tailor-made solutions to issues affecting all aspects of their existence and activities. Our core business is the provision of corporate as well as individual client-focused legal services. We have capacity to serve as external counsel to corporations in all sectors of the economy, both privately owned and publicly listed, as well as parastatals. The firm also makes use of outside resources such as Counsel, financial advisors etc. in consultation with clients in order to improve on service delivery to the client. PRACTICE AREAS Corporate & Commercial Our corporate and commercial practice covers a wide range of transactions, such as contractual transactions between business entities, business formation and acquisition, as well as litigation as required. We have the expertise to serve and adapt to the needs of our national and international clients, in all their diversity. Real Estate/ Conveyancing/ Notarial Practice We offer services to various financial institutions, banks and building societies, property development companies, real estate agencies, landlords, tenants, lenders, investors, corporations and sellers and purchasers in a wide variety of real estate transactions and litigation matters. We have an efficient conveyancing department which works with a quick turn-around in the registration of transfers and securitisation i.e mortgage and notarial bonds. Litigation Our litigators have wide experience and can effectively initiate and defend legal action from the onset to finalization of appeal, covering a full range of legal problems common to corporates and individuals, including commercial disputes, personal injuries claims, family law matters, construction disputes, defamation suits, employment, corporate governance and civil and criminal matters. Where appropriate, alternative dispute resolution mechanisms are recommended to clients in order to ensure expeditious resolution of matters in a cost-effective manner. Labour Consultancy We offer labour consultancy services, encompassing the drafting of employment contracts, codes of conduct and constitutions, representation at all levels of hearings, as well as labour arbitration and litigation, employee share ownership schemes, fair labour standards, employee rights and related issues. We also undertake tailor-made training for corporate clients in the handling of disciplinary matters. Estate Planning & Administration Our services also cover the individual’s wealth management needs during and after life. In this regard we provide estate planning services for our individual clients, incorporating drafting, registration and safe custody of wills and family and other trusts, as well as deceased and insolvent estate administration. Compliance & Corporate Governance We are able to offer comprehensive technical advice and training on best practices in the fields of corporate governance, company secretarial practice, regulatory and legislative compliance relevant to industry, the financial sector, start-up businesses and the not-for-profit sector. We strive to deliver quality service and provide good value for money. In general, our fees are based on time spent on the job, the complexity of the matter and the responsibility carried. We use the Zimbabwe Law Society tariff of fees as a guide, and have in force an internal charge out rate for non-litigious work, which is reviewed periodically in line with market and economic changes.
